Drum kits
A person who is learning to use drum kits might find that
using the pedals on the kit might be the most difficult thing to do.
However, a little practice can help a person overcome this challenge
fairly easily. The following process should be followed when learning
to play with these pedals:
• Arrange them – The pedals can be arranged to best fit
the style of the person playing on the drum kits. The majority of drummers
will use the pedal on the left for the hi-hat and the pedal on the right
for the bass drum. There sometimes is another pedal that a person needs
to learn to play on those bass drums that have more than one mallet.
• Step on it – After the pedals on drum kits have been arranged
to the drummer’s liking, it is now time to test them out. A person
should play with their foot lightly rested on the pedal. When a person
is ready to activate the pedal, all he or she needs to do is simply
push down.
• Adjust the seat – When sitting at different drum kits,
a drummer will likely need to adjust the seat he is drumming in. By
having the seat in the proper position, a person is also able to put
feet in the right position as they drum.
• Practice – Once all of these other steps are established,
the only thing left to do is practice. Holding a beat with the pedals
requires a person to get a feel for how the pedals work. However, once
a person is comfortable with the pedals on drum kits, he should be ready
to play.
