Drum sticks
A person using drum sticks for a complete set of songs
will doubtless find that the longer he or she plays, the more difficult
it is to keep the sticks in hand. The reason for this is because the
sticks are naturally smooth and a person’s hands get sweatier.
Add these two things together and it is easy to see why drummers have
a hard time holding on to drum sticks.
Despite this, there is help available. While some drummers choose to
wear fingerless gloves, there are others who go a different route and
wrap the drum sticks they use. In order to wrap drum sticks, a person
must:
• Completely unroll the drumstick wrap. Unrolling it can help
a person know how much wrap he has to work with.
• Remove the tab on the end of the roll. Doing this will expose
a sticky surface. This adhesive is what is needed to allow the wrap
to cling to the stick.
• Starting with the bottom of the stick, a person should slowly
wrap the wrapping around the stick. Most drum sticks include grooves
that will help a person know where the best places to wrap are.
• Keep it low – The wrap should not extend to the upper
parts of the drum sticks. A person should only wrap these sticks slightly
above the area where they hold the sticks with their hands. Too much
wrap could dull the sound made on drums by the drum sticks.
